A lot of us don't have the luxury of having a spacious bathroom at home. Although we will probably be in the bathroom for less than an hour per day, it is still important to think about its design. A good bathroom make us feel comfortable while taking a bath instead of feeling a bit claustrophobic. You can always add extra square footage into the bathroom but it is expensive to do so. The cheaper way is to manipulate some of the bathroom features to make it feel larger. Follow the tips below and hopefully the bathroom can be a sanctuary for you after a day of stressful work.

1. Darker colors make a room feel cramped, on the opposite, lighter colors will make it feel spacious. You may use white or pastel colors such as soft shade of pale blue. Patterned wallpapers are best avoided, they also make the room feel smaller.
2. Focus only on the most important bathroom features such as seated toilet, shower area, and hand basin. Cupboards and shelving are wasting a lot of space, if you really need storage, install them outside the bathroom instead.
3. Browse the internet or your local hardware store for wash hand basins that are made of glass or have the same color with your wall. Choose one that you like the most and make sure it can be attached directly to the wall. We want to keep the floor space to be as free as possible.
4. Opt for walk in shower instead of a tub, this will save massive space. But if you enjoy bubble bath that much, then maybe it is better to not sacrifice this feature.
5. Glass shower doors, just like wash hand basins made of glass, will give you the illusion of a larger room. Install them as a separator of the shower area with the rest of the bathroom.
6. For a space saving towel holder, utilize the back of your bathroom door by installing hooks.
7. Avoid large and intricate plumbing fixtures in the bathroom, opt for simple ones instead.
8. Mirror is great for reflecting a room, hang one above the hand basin. The bigger the mirror, the more part of the bathroom it will reflect.
9. When we are standing inside a spacious bathroom, we will feel that there is a sense of openness. To mimic this in a smaller bathroom, try adding a window to let the sunlight in.
